Microdosing Mushrooms – A new Mental Health Frontier

Exploring Microdosing with Psychedelic Mushrooms

Hello, curious soul! If you’ve been itching to dip your toes into the world of microdosing with psychedelic mushrooms, you’re in for an intriguing journey. Think of it as a little adventure that lets you explore your mind and emotions in a subtle, yet meaningful way. So, grab a comfy seat and let’s dive into this inviting guide to microdosing – the gentle way to dance with magic.

The Microdosing Magic Unveiled

The beauty of mushrooms is that they have a profound affect on our brain, on our emotional processing and the science has been showing incredible improvements on treatment resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, neurodegenerative disorders, neurodiverse issues and so much more.  We are talking about over 85% of patients with significant impacts.

Microdosing invites you to take a teensy-tiny dose – just a fraction of what might send you into outer space. It’s like sipping a cup of tea with a sprinkle of wonder. You won’t be seeing kaleidoscopic colors or feel high AT ALL (at least you shouldn’t, or its not a microdose), but you might notice a shift in your mood, creativity, and perception.

Is microdosing right for me?

First of all: when using psychedelic mushrooms you should always have someone supporting you in your journey.  This is where I come in and where my team has been able to give so much more to the community of healing.  While we DO NOT produce or offer the medicines, we can help you support your making of the medicine, dosing, integration techniques, behavior modification and more.

We even have a licensed therapist on our team to help with talk therapy and traditional therapy for your life as it begins to change!  AND we offer virtual sessions!

Those who see immense benefits are vast!  And we are still even seeing more and more benefits across so many other uses too!

  • People that suffer from anxiety or depression that are not currently medicated
  • People suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury
  • People suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Complex or Acute)
  • Artistic or creative individuals looking to expand
  • Those seeking deep personal reflection or meditative support
  • Therapists that help with Addiction.
  • Individuals looking to come off medications for Anxiety, Depression, Migraines, Brain injuries or Trauma
Who is not a good candidate for microdosing?
  • Someone in a manic state or that suffers from bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia or multiple personality disorder should never use a psychedelic.
  • Someone that is currently struggling with serious abuse of alcohol/narcotics

It’s important to acknowledge that the use of psychedelic mushrooms, also known as psilocybin-containing mushrooms, can potentially interact with various medications. While scientific research on these interactions is ongoing, it’s crucial to be informed about potential risks and consult a healthcare professional before embarking on any psychedelic journey, especially if you’re taking medications.

This is more an interaction with an “active” doses and not microdosing, but I think its really important to give you this knowledge as MOST people venture out of microdosing into a full journey eventually.

Certain classes of medications, including but not limited to:

  1. Serotonergic Medications: Drugs that affect serotonin levels in the brain, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), may interact with psilocybin, potentially leading to a range of effects, including serotonin syndrome in high doses.

  2. Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs): These medications, often used to treat depression, can have serious interactions with psilocybin, potentially causing dangerous increases in blood pressure and other adverse effects for those that have a hard time regulating this on their own.

  3. Anti-Anxiety and Sedative Medications: Psychedelic experiences can amplify the effects of sedatives and anti-anxiety medications, leading to heightened sedation and drowsiness, so you should be abstaining from these when in active use of a psychedelic.

  4. Antipsychotic Medications: Antipsychotics can affect the intensity and nature of psychedelic experiences, potentially diminishing the desired effects of psilocybin.  Or in the most likely case, you just won’t feel anything at all.

Given the complexities of these interactions, it’s strongly recommended that individuals seeking to explore psychedelic mushrooms for therapeutic or recreational purposes inform their healthcare provider about their intentions and medical history. This will help mitigate potential risks and ensure that informed decisions can be made regarding the safe use of psychedelic substances in conjunction with existing medications.

(Now we all know 99.99% of your healthcare providers have ABSOLUTELY no knowledge of this AT ALL, so you can set up an appointment with us to explore this more deeply.  Yes, we have LOTS and LOTS that have successfully downgraded medicines and been able to have successful microdosing and macrodosing experiences.)

Dosage and Timing

Typically, a microdose is about 1/10 to 1/50 of a “regular” trip dose. Technically there are about 7 levels of dosing in psychedelic mushrooms and its not a one size fits all. (Check out my “Getting Trippy” Blog post about these levels)  A full therapeutic guided dose is typically 2.5g-5g, depending on the practitioner’s’ suggestions. A regular dose can be anywhere from .8g to 2.5g, depending on sensitivity and tolerance. We are NOT recommending anything close to this for microdosing.  A true microdose should NOT impact your day to day life in any way, and you should not at all feel impaired.  If you do, your dose needs to be changed to a lower amount.

Making sure that you set your tolerance levels low to start is important.  This medicine builds up in the system very quickly.

You’ll want to create a consistent schedule – every few days, not every day – to keep your dance moves smooth. Most follow a schedule of 4 days on and 3 days off with Lionsmane daily (Called the Staments Stack) or 5 days on and 2 days off with Lionsmane and Cordyceps Daily, CBDA on the off days (Called the Ledbetter Stack)

I recommend .1g of Golden Teacher or a gentle strain.  You can find vegetarian capsules, a microscale, filling tools, other functional mushrooms and a pill holder HERE in my Amazon favs under Supplements.

Your Microdosing Toolkit

Here’s the fun part – assembling your microdosing toolkit! You’ll need some psychedelic mushrooms (of course), a scale to measure tiny doses (precision is key), and a journal to document your journey. Oh, and a dash of open-mindedness to embrace whatever comes your way.  CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR KIT!

So how do you make your microdose!?

  1. You’ll need a properly sourced mushroom strain.  I can’t help you here, but I can help you uncover the myco community and also introduce you to how to grow your own too.
  2. You’ll need a coffee grinder, capsules, filling tools, a microscale, lionsmane capsules, parchment paper, patience and a great playlist.
  3. Please make sure you adequately sanitize your workspace, double wash your hands and make sure there is nothing that will interfere in your space or compromise the mushrooms.  They can and will grow mold.
  4. Take your dried mushrooms and place them into the coffee grinder.  This will get those into a nice powder like ground to place into your capsules.
  5. Dump the portions onto some parchment paper or into a small glass jar to store and get ready to organize your capsules
  6. In the capsule holder, you’re going to open up the capsules and take the smaller side or top and place them in a small bowl.  Place carefully the capsules into the holder and fill the spaces by how many capsules you intend to make. I usually do about 90 days worth which is 12 rows.
  7. Take only one capsule and use your long filler tool (its got a flat side and a curved side but then are long and fit easily into the capsule) – take a bit of the ground mushrooms and place them in the capsule.  Typically when you fill it almost to the tip without pressing it, its around .15g or 150mg.  This could be slightly higher than you want, so fill about halfway.
  8. Weigh your capsule.  Take your microscale, place an empty capsule on the scale and “tare” or clear out the amount to take weight of the empty capsules.  Then take a closed capsule from what you filled and place on the scale after removing the sample capsule.  Take note of that amount and choose to add more or less into the capsule.
  9. Once you’ve established a rough estimate of how much you need to fill into the capsule, start filling!  I like to listen to frequencies to really bring my energy clear to the space, but anything uplifting is great too!
  10. After you’ve filled all your capsules, place their tops back on, separate them into bags of 4 or 5 and store them in a mason jar with a moisture absorber.
The Microdosing Mindset

Remember, microdosing isn’t a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. It’s more like a unique dance routine tailored just for you. Some days, you might feel more connected to your emotions; other days, you might ride the waves of creativity. Embrace the surprises, let go of expectations, and savor the changes happening in your body.

As you go about your day, keep your senses tuned in. You might find that colors are a tad more vibrant, or your thoughts are flowing like a calm river. Jot down your observations in your journal – it’s like sketching your journey in words.

Embrace the Ripples

Microdosing isn’t about instant fireworks; it’s about those subtle ripples that flow through your days. You might find your stress melting away, your social interactions becoming smoother, or your creative juices flowing freely. Embrace these small shifts – they’re the heart of microdosing.

Stay Grounded and Reflect

Throughout your microdosing journey, keep checking in with yourself. Reflect on how you’re feeling, what you’re learning, and how your world is changing – one tiny mushroom step at a time. This isn’t just about the journey, but also about the lessons you’re gathering along the way.

Seek Support and Stay Curious

As with any journey, it’s great to have companions. Connect with like-minded explorers, read up on experiences, and remember – curiosity is your best friend. If you ever feel unsure, seek advice from experienced guides or experts to ensure you’re on the right path.
